Monthly E-Stamp Newsletter edited published By Mahesh Reddiar

Dear Reader & Philatelists,

I am pleased to release Kairali Stamp News –July-2017- Monthly Stamp Newsletter.

GST ON PHILATELY:

Philatelists across the country have sent a letter to the finance minister Mr. Arun Jaitley. They requested to Mr. Arun Jaitley that their hobbies should not be kept under the slab rate of 28 percent tax on Goods and Services Tax.  People are scared that the collection of items which includes stamps, paintings, coins and antique items may be categorized under ‘unclassified goods’ and it will be imposed with highest GST rates. Since Philately is a hobby involving a large number of School Children and Senior Citizens the burden of any tax rate under the new GST regime would be unjustified and make it difficult for collectors and philatelists to pursue their  hobby. Any lack of interest to participate in the hobby will finally result in the  people of India being the ultimate losers.

I am, also the opinion that the high taxation on philatelic and postal material will harm the development of the hobby and thanks to the philatelists who working hard to interact with ministry to get the GST on philatelic material at low percentage or getting full exception. However tax in any form or  percentage, if levied it pave way to  kill this hobby.  Hope government will understand philately is a hobby which gives the opportunity and pleasure to know more and study about any of favorite topics, not a trade.

Do You Know: The Great Barrier Reef – Australia

The Great Barrier Reef, a 1,600-mile-long behemoth that covers more than 133,000 square miles, is the crown jewel of Australia’s natural offerings, both in biodiversity and tourism value. Of its $42 billion valuation, $22 billion of that was attributed to its value in attracting travelers.Great Barrier Reef australiaThe Great Barrier Reef could be considered again for an “in danger” listing by the United Nations World Heritage Committee following the devastating bleaching this year, The news came as a group of prominent lawyers, scientists and NGOs wrote to the committee, urging it to ask Australia to do more to protect the reef.

As a condition of UNESCO not listing the Great Barrier Reef as “in danger” in 2015, the World Heritage Committee said Australia needed to report back to the committee on 1 December 2016, detailing the progress of conservation – how new 2050 water pollution targets were being implemented and funded. If UNESCO and the World Heritage Committee find they have not been adequately implemented or funded, the reef could be considered again for inclusion on the “in danger” list at a meeting in 2017.
