100th Anniversary of Yu Hua School, Kajang on stamps

“These commemorative stamps were also created to remind the younger generation of Yu Hua School’s colourful 100-year history,” said the school’s Board of Directors vice-chairman Gan Khong Aik. The stamps bear three designs – the historic Yu Hua school building, and its current primary and secondary school buildings. The sheets on which the stamps are printed bear designs featuring a rhythmic gymnastics ribbon, calligraphy art and a harmonica, representing the school’s three strongest co-curricular activities. Pos Malaysia has produced 305,000 pieces for each of the three stamp designs, 40,000 first day covers, 35,000 miniature sheets and 7,000 specially-designed folders, of which the school has already purchased 5,000. Limited quantities of these items are being sold in post offices nationwide.

Pos Malaysia Stamp and Philately Unit commercial postal and courier head Diyana Lean Abdullah said Yu Hua was the fourth school to have a commemorative stamp series launched for its centenary celebration. Other schools were Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Penang Free School, and Chung Ling High School, Penang. Yu Hua School has a series of events planned throughout this month to celebrate its 100th anniversary where members of the public can join in. This includes a large charity sale and funfair on March 10, a lion dance competition on March 11, and a gala dinner on March 17.
