50th Anniversary of the Bahrain Defence Force on Stamp

50th Anniversary of the Bahrain Defence Force on Stamp

On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication (MTT)’s Bahrain Post in cooperation with Bahrain Defense Force produced a set of four commemorative stamps and one souvenir sheet crowned with the portrait of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, The Supreme Commander.
With the development of modern civilization in Bahrain, and the expansion of its socio-economic renaissance, the BDF was established as an essential requirement to achieve the high national goals in building a modern community that are in step with modern-day requirements and based on solid foundations of strength and determination to achieve progress and prosperity.

With these key factors in mind, the Bahrain Defence Force was established in 1968 during the prosperous era of the late Amir Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, which marked the beginning of a prominent cultural breakthrough in the modern history of Bahrain and a commitment to protect its great accomplishments. The BDF has reached a high level of honor and glory, where it was able to achieve great strides towards military steps of advancement and progress, placing it among the modern armies in the world.

Under the supervision and patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, The Supreme Commander, the basic building blocks were laid for this lofty edifice of defense, and its foundations were further consolidated, as well as its pillars were strengthened, thus allowing him to perform his great duties of defending the Motherland, safeguarding its natural resources as well as its developmental and civilizational achievements, and maintaining its stability. The institution thus has succeeded in achieving its goals and has always been a bulwark that protects both the homeland and its citizens.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, The Supreme Commander, had started his benevolent efforts in building the Kingdom of Bahrain and prepared the outline of the military forces after His Majesty’s graduation from the Mons Officer Cadet School in the United Kingdom on February 16, 1968, which was bolstered by two decrees issued by His Highness the late Amir Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa to establish the Bahrain Defence Force (previously named The National Guard) in the beginning of August 1968 and assigned his Majesty to become its First Commander on September 3rd of that year.

These Sovereign ordinances marked the beginning of a new phase of national action and bids, as well as a milestone in the glorious military history of Bahrain.

The stamps are available in all Bahrain Post branches in 200, 250,300, and 400 fils denominations as well as a BD 1.000 souvenir sheet and a first day cover at BD 1.500, and this stamp issued on 12th Feb-2018.
