Issue Date:15 September 1960 Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was a great engineer and diplomat of India. His birthday 15 September is celebrated as Engineer’s Day in India. Dr. M. Visvesvaraya is known to be a world renowned Indian engineer and was one of the principal designers of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad, along with the construction of the Krishna Raj Sagar Dam in Mandya district. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955 and the title of Knighthood by Britain in 1915. The Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore was renamed as Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum in his honour. He is the second Indian in whose lifetime a postage stamp was issued on him. |

He was the first Vice President of India (1952–1962) and the second President of India. His birthday (September 5) is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in India. Honours: Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was awarded the title of Knighthood in 1932, Bharat Ratna in 1954 and Honorary Membership of the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963. He is the fourth Indian in whose lifetime a postage stamp was issued on him. |
