Mumbai Airport is the publicly owned airport and owned by the Airports Authority of India. The airport is owned by the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). The airport was opened in 1942 and it is the hub of Air India, JetConnect, Blue Dart Aviation, SpiceJet, GoAir, Jet Airways, and IndiGo. It is also one of the busiest airports in India.

Mumbai Airport is named after the 17th-century Maratha emperor, Chhatrapati Shivaji. However, the IATA airport code is “BOM” which is derived from Bombay, the former name of Mumbai.
