First Mass in the Philippines – Limasawa

This is a 1972 postage stamp issued by the Republic of the Philippines to commemorate the 450th Anniversary (1521-1971) March 31, 1521,  of the First Catholic Mass in Limasawa. – Air Mail Issue / Issued on October 31, 1972.

The Republic of the Philippines is an island country in SE Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean named in honor of King Philip II of Spain. It was officiated by Fr. Pedro Valderrama using an improvised altar with the presence of Ferdinand Magellan, Antonio Pigafetta, Gines de Mafra, Francisco Albo, Spanish soldiers, Rajah Kolambu with his men and Rajah Siagu of Butuan.
