KR Anandavalli (90), Kerala’s first postwoman, who cycled for kilometers with postal letters, has passed away. Anandavalli, a commerce graduate from SD College, Alappuzha, was posted as a post woman at Tatthampally Post Office in Alappuzha. He accepted the first job he got.
The post Urupadis were distributed on a rally bicycle bought by his father, Vaidya Kalanidhi KR Raghavan, to go to college. It was a wonderful sight for the people of Alappuzha that day. Even though time passed, Anandavalli kept that bicycle like a treasure until recently.
Anandavalli worked in various post offices in the alappuzha district as post woman, clerk and post mistress. He retired from Muhamma in 1991.
