Geneva International Airport is one of the top rated airports in Europe and is located just 5 km from the city center. On average every minute one plane lands or take off from the airport.
However, just two decades later, Geneva’s airport terminal had become woefully undersized and major extensions were carried out, greatly increasing the capacity to approximately five million passengers per annum. Other important dates in the history of Geneva Cointrin International Airport (GVA) include 1994 – when the airport gained its complete autonomy, 1997 – when the new railway station opened and 1998 – when the charter terminal was completed. The arrival of the West Wing extension in the year 2000 is also worth a mention
