International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction began in 1989, after a call by the United Nations General Assembly for a day to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction. The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDR) is observed on 13th October every year with a view to encourage every citizen and government to take part in building more disaster resilient communities and nations.

The day is observed to showcase how people and communities around the word are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness about the importance of reining the risks that they face in the process.

The special cover issued to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction features the colour image of the best drawing from the competition. The cover was also part of the Philately Day event of the National Postal Week Celebration 2020. The special pictorial cancellation is a line graphic sketch of an umbrella protecting the earth supported in a palm and issued on 13-10-2020. (KL /12/2020).
