National Philatelic Museum situated near Connaught Place, is Dak Bhawan which has a post office with an outlet for philatelists interested in Indian stamps. The building also houses the National Philatelic Museum which has an extensive stamp collection including the first stamp issued in India by the Sindh Dak (1854) and stamps issued before Independence by the rulers of the Princely States.

The National Philatelic Museum attempts to showcase the great Indian panorama as presented through postage stamps. It is located on the ground floor of Dak Bhawan since 2011.It is easily accessible to public by Delhi Metro. It is next to Patel Chowk Metro Station which is also one of the stops of Delhi Tourism’s Hop On Hop Off sight-seeing bus service. Nearest bus stand of DTC is the Akashvani Bus stop.

All Commemorative Postage Stamps issued by Department of Post since independence in 1947 are displayed in chronological order in the Museum. Thematic stamps under specific themes like Mahatma Gandhi, Science and Technology, Flora and Fauna, Art and Culture, Children’s Day etc are displayed in the Thematic Section. Each exhibit in the thematic section has a brief write up too. Many blow-ups of beautiful & popular stamps adorn the inside walls of the National Philatelic Museum.

The Museum is equipped with audio-visual facility and a small amphitheatre to interact with visitors’ groups such as school children. Guided tour and Workshops on Philately are regularly conducted for school children and visitors visiting the museum. There is also a souvenir shop inside the museum. A wide range of philatelic ancillaries sourced from all across the country are available for sale at the souvenir shop. Further, My Stamp printing facility is also available at the Museum. It takes around 15-20 minutes to prepare a personalised My Stamp.
