New stamp on 125 years of Hindu College, Delhi University

Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan released on 05th December-2023, first-day cover and commemorative postage stamp to mark Quasquicentennial celebrations of Hindu College, Delhi University. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chauhan congratulated the college administration and the alumni for their continuous commitment to building this institution for eminence through their enormous contributions, spreading quality knowledge and innovative ideas. He said, the release of the stamp marks not only a celebration of the past but also a commitment to a future of continued academic distinction and holistic development.

Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University Prof. Yogesh Singh congratulated the college on this historic occasion and stated that the next 25 years are essential for the country’s growth, with the potential of young minds like Hindu College students. He emphasised that their commitment and dedicated hard work in education will shape the nation’s future.

On this occasion, the Principal of Hindu College, Prof Anju Srivastava, stated that Hindu College has been a beacon of education since its establishment in 1899, nurturing generations of scholars and making significant strides in both academic and extracurricular domains. She said, the stamp serves as a tribute to the institution’s enduring legacy and its pivotal role in shaping the intellectual landscape of the nation.

The commemorative postage stamp has a denomination of five rupees. The First-day cover showcases the magnificent Hindu College building, framed by lush lawns, capturing the essence of the institution’s architectural grandeur.

Poised at the threshold of 125 years of its existence, Hindu College, which started with thirteen students and six teachers in 1899, has now grown into one of the most coveted higher education institutions in the country with more than 4,000 students and 200 teachers, offering undergraduate courses in 19 disciplines and post-graduate programmes in 14 disciplines in humanities, science, and commerce. Apart from these, the College also offers student exchange programmes, certificate and add-on courses in various disciplines—many of these initiatives are in collaboration with reputed foreign institutions and universities such as NUS, Singapore, King’s College London, York University, U.K., to name a few.

Members at Hindu college are not only accomplished academicians and scholars but also dedicated researchers who are involved with several major research projects sponsored by government agencies, such as DRDO, Asian Development Bank, SERB, ICSSR, etc. Today, Hindu College holds an exemplary position amongst the various educational institutions in our country. The college has secured top rankings in India Today College Rankings and is placed 2nd in NIRF, and it has also received an A+ Grade from NAAC in Cycle I. Approximately, 120 members of teaching and non- teaching staff are involved in the research field of green energy.
