Guided with the great vision and the benign blessings of His Holiness Sri Bharathi Tirtha Mahaswamiji, the Poomulli Neelakandan Namboodiripad Memorial Ayurveda Medical College had a humble beginning at Shoranur in the year 2007.

The well-known hospital unit of the Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam, Shoranur functions as the Medical College Hospital. The College offers BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery) also entitled as ‘Ayurvedacharya’ and is recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicines, Govt. of India, New Delhi and is affiliated to The University of Calicut and Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur.

The academic wing is fulfilled by a group of dedicated and competent faculty. Apart from the prescribed curriculum of Ayurveda, the college also imparts knowledge in ancient sciences like Jyothisham, Vasthu, Tantric etc by eminent scholars. Visiting scholars from modern medicine also share their knowledge through guest lectures.

It is the first Ayurvedic healing center as well as the first Ayurvedic teaching center in the country and has been accredited as one of the best places for Ayurvedic treatments. The well equipped Samajam Pharmacy produces 500 varieties of Ayurvedic Medicines still in the traditional qualitative way.

The Samajam Hospital which accommodates more than 100 patients at a time is well-known for the Panchakarma, Kerala therapies and Traditional forms of other Ayurvedic Treatment procedures.

Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam is conducting daily charity OPDs with full-fledged service and an average of 150-250 patients will visit the OPDs daily. The medicine and treatment are rendered free of cost for the patients attending charity OPDs. In addition to OPDs IP Wards consisting of 25 beds is also functioning in the college providing solace to the patients. An amount of rupees 15 lakhs is spent annually for charity purposes. The college is committed to molding efficient Ayurvedic physicians with moral integrity and social responsibility.

The duration of the BAMS course is 5½ years which includes a one-year compulsory internship. The college offers a Paramedical certificate course for Panchakarma therapists with one-year duration.  This special cover issued on 13-11-2017.
