The Tamil Film Veerpandiya Kattabomman was released on 16 May 1959. It was based on life of one of the earliest freedom fighters. Dr Sivaji Ganesan was the lead actor in the film .This film became the first Tamil Film to win an international award .It was awarded the Best Film ,Sivaji Ganesan Best actor & G Ramanathan Best Music Director at the Afro-Asian Film festival in Cairo in 1960. A Special cover was released on 16 May 2009 at Chennai to mark Golden Jubilee of its release.
