The historic Aluva Municipality on the banks of Periyar is 100 years old now. A hundred years of leaps and bounds in development have passed.

Aluva became a municipality as early as 1911 and had its first municipal commissioner in 1921 after the passing of Travancore district municipality act. On September 15, 1921, the first administrative committee took charge of the Aluva Municipal Corporation. Khan Sahib M.K. The first administrative committee of Aluva Aluva Municipality took charge under the leadership of Khader Pillai. But the first People’s Council came into being in January 1925.

Aluva (formerly Alwaye), is second biggest town of Greater Cochin City in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India which is also considered as the Industrial and Commercial City of Kochi. Located on the River Periyar, Aluva is the industrial epicentre of the state.A major transportation hub, with easy access to all major forms of transportation, Aluva acts as a corridor which links the highland districts to the rest of the state. Cochin International Airport Limited – CIAL at Nedumbassery, is 11.7 km away from Aluva. Aluva is more famous for its accessibility through Rail (Aluva Railway Station), Air (CIAL Airport) and Metro (Kochi Metro Rail Limited).
